is there room in your brain for one more tid bit?

All I have to say is that my brain is SO full of information about EVERYTHING possible (including having to figure out my health benefits, which, even with the else of my two genius parents, seems to be impossible). But it's a good fullness.

Also, when the SM told us today about having to schedule meetings for tomorrow with the props shop, the scene shop, and the costume shop, my brain immediately thought of the classes and work that I had to work around to do that. Then, when I realized that that stuff didn't EXIST to work around, and that it was my job to be at these meetings...well, it was a total mind-freak.

Today was an incredibly surreal experience. And it was awesome. I'm sure there are many, many more super surreal days to come. I can't wait!

8.18.2008

couldn't be bigger

I'm a firm believer in the fact that if you're nervous about something, it means you have something to lose, that it's important to you. Therefore nerves (to an extent) are a good thing because they help you work harder.

I think.

(Notice I didn't say worrying. I also think that worrying, mostly, is useless. And while I do more than my fair share of it, it doesn't get you anywhere and solves nothing.)

In less than 12 hours I will be starting the first day of my job. The first day in the middle of August in over 16 years that I am not going back to school. I told my family that I was counting down until my childhood ends. My cousin Katie told me that no I wasn't starting my job, I was starting my career. Man that's a scary thought.

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't nervous. I am. I'm excited too. So much so that I am over prepared. I packed my lunch tonight (in case that's what they do there), made sure there is money available to buy lunch (in case that's what they do there), did laundry and set my clothes out, put everything I could possibly need in my purse (yes, it is possible to prepare a purse), put a sweater, bottle of water, extra diet coke, and different shoes (just in case) in a tote bag-on top of which I will put my lunch bag.

Tonight doesn't feel like any of my nights before the first day of school. It feels different. Better. More exciting. And what makes it exciting is that I'm also a little nervous. Although for school my nerves were much different; tonight's nerves seem healthy and right. Tomorrow is going to be great.

Wish me luck.

Right Turn Harch

There's a band competition (or something band camp) going on at the fancy school that's at the top of my block. I can hear it in my living room right now. While it doesn't make me want to go back to marching band, it does make me totally nostalgic for all of the awesome memories with those 7 years--but especially the 4 years of high school band, competitions, and camp.

It has been a seriously busy and fun couple of days!
On Sunday I made the ever so exciting drive (read: most boring drive ever) to South Bend for a cast party for the show at the SBCT that I designed. It was loads of fun, and I even went swimming!!! The cast and director got me a present--a frame with a picture of the cast, director, crew, and I, and a huge mat around it with notes from them all. It was absolutely so sweet and awesome. Of course, I made the super extra terribly boring drive home after, and I got home at midnight:thirty.Oh, and I got to see my awesome friend Ays, too! She came into town just for the day to see her boyfriend in a show, and we caught each other right before we were both leaving. It was an amazing 15 minute-stand outside-catch up, but it made me miss her more :(.
I am sad that I didn't get to see any of the other people I know and love who are in the SB area...I just didn't have enough time. Hopefully I will be going up again soon.
My dad and I went up to Chicago on Tuesday morning for a Cubs game. We just got home. It was amazing, and death defying. I'll write a for reals post on it later. For now, enjoy the pictures :)

7.01.2008

I cant really explain it

Here is a list of things that I consider to be facts:

1. Cake made with Diet Coke is Amazing. It seems that maybe I can be domesticated. Big Maybe still, though.

2. Funfetti icing is the best.

3. The fare for babysitting has soared since I was the neighborhood resident babysitter. For 2 girls (aged 3 and 5.5) from 6:30-11:30, who were incredibly easy to sit, I got $50 last weekend. When I was in junior high, or even early high school, I would have gotten no more than $30 for that. Probably $25. A few weeks ago, for 3 year old triplets, for 7 hours, I got $80. If people keep calling me to sit this summer, I will make a living off of it!

4. My dad is adorable. For many reasons. Most recently: Mom was cleaning the dining room and going through stuff on shelves. Dad found a "Class of 2008" photo album that matches my other photo albums that I prefer and gave it to me saying "Hey, I got this for you, and had planned on printing all the photos from graduation etc while you were still at the Civic, but we got really busy." It was super cute. Even cuter was tonight, while printing pictures to put in it he picked it up and said "I was gonna print pictures for you for when I gave it to you. I'm sorry." 5 minutes later, he says "You know I ordered this specially for you...from Target." It was funny. Trust me.

5. Also on my dad, there are many things he is and isn't. One of the things he is is incredibly protective of me. Which is awesome. It's like he loves me so much, he gets really heated when he hears of someone fucking with me, even slightly. We had a very to moderately minor event at our gym last week that brought that out in him.

6. Sitting on my porch at night, drinking wine, eating diet coke cake, talking about sex and sex toys with Ann and Frankie is the best.

7. Big production numbers in musicals make the world go round. This includes movie musicals, even bad ones.

8. The book The Emperor's Children was amazing. I highly suggest it, especially for transitioning adults/college students. Possible "review" to come.

9. I am going to Michigan for Fourth of July. We're going to visit my Aunt and Uncle/God Parents, their daughters, and their daughter's new baby Morgan. There is an outlet mall near them with, literally, 500+ stores. Hopefully we go.

10. My Aunt Kathy has this beautiful "secretary" (like the piece of furniture) that she is giving me. It used to belong to her Grandma Deeter, meaning my great grandma. How cool is that. Now I have much, much more incentive to get my rear in gear to finish redoing my room so I can put it in there. I saw it last week and its gorgeous. As soon as I get it, I will post a picture.

11. Who makes a list of 11 things? I do. Number 11? I miss my friends from school too much :(.

Update: 12. Getting a manicure from a 3 year old always makes you prettier. For reals.

13. Smiley and Snoop told me I was the strongest girl they know. Heckya!

ReUpdate: 14. My family and I are terrible at doing things on time. My mom and I finally stuffed and addressed my graduation announcements. I graduated on May 17. In case you didn't realize, today was June 30th. Yikes. Good news is I was able to include thank you notes in the envelopes. They turned out quite nicely.

15. I have a disgusting and embarrassing addiction to Living Lohan. Don't judge me. Yes, I realize it's a terrible, terrible show and that I'm only supporting them by watching, but I can't help it. (hey there terrible grammar/punctuation!) I hate myself for it. One of the upsides of watching? One of my fave blogs, Defamer, does an excellent mock write up of it each week giving the reader/watcher 3 lessons they should have learned from Mother of the Year Dina Lohan. These articles are hilarious.

Liza Minelli Goodness. And by goodness, I mean a picture and commentary of her outfit from last night that I spoke of earlier.

Tony WHAAAA???

So besides being Father’s Day, today is The 62nd Annual Tony Awards. Watching the Tonys, for me at least, is like experiencing a slice of Heaven. And this year it’s even better because a week ago today, I was in New York and saw 4 shows that are nominated for multiple Tonys each. The following are my thoughts as the night of awards and brilliant performances progress. I wish I were a better and more creative writer, or a good one at least, so that this would be interesting…

Fuck Yeah Rondi Reed winning the “Best Featured Actress in a Play” award for August: Osage County. Remember when I said it was one of the best shows I’ve ever seen? Yeah, it is. If you plan on seeing it however, DO NOT read it first. Trust me on this. Although, I have paged through the script a couple of times, and the bits and pieces I’ve read thus far are just as absolutely amazing as the production.

Performance from Cry Baby was great—I especially liked the men tap dancing with license plates on the soles of their tap shoes. Sounds/looks like a good show.

God I LOVE John Lithgow. Too bad the fucking weather man just came on TV to tell us about the storm outside while Mr. Lithgow was presenting Best Direction of A Musical. Fuck the bad weather. Why can’t they give the updates during commercials??? A commercial break literally JUST ended and they then choose to give the weather update. God if they do that during a performance I’m gonna lose my shit.

Patti LuPone, Laura Benanti and Boyd Gaines just did a performance from Gypsy, one the shows we saw. Ok, it was more like HRH Patti performing with the other two standing on stage. HRH is FIERCE. Laura Benanti is incredible also…too bad they didn’t do one of the songs with her singing too, although the show was revived FOR Patti. When we were walking to Penn Station one night, we walked past the theatre where Gypsy was performing and Laura was standing outside with her husband Steven Pasquale, and she’s even more beautiful in person than in stage or TV. Did I mention Patti LuPone is fabulous?

Harry Connick Jr. just introduced a performance from Roger and Hammerstein’s South Pacific-isn’t it interesting that they have to say “Roger and Hammerstein’s” whenever they say it? But also, I can’t hear the name Harry Connick Jr. without thinking of an episode of The Office—“Gay Witch Hunt”. Angela says something about Will & Grace and how she only likes it when Harry Connick Jr. is on. Also, South Pacific reminds me of Red Herring last year. Sad.

Fuck Yeah Laura Benanti winning the Tony for “Best Featured Acress in a musical” for Gypsy. LOOOOVE her. And she was just absolutely adorable accepting, she made me tear up! Also, Kristen Chenoweth was super cute presenting.

Fuck Yeah Again for Boyd Gaines winning the “Best Featured Actor in a Musical” Tony for Gypsy. After winning multiple Tonys already, it’s so amazing to see a person so grateful to be doing what he does.

Not really impressed with The Little Mermaid. Her tail was creepy.
I LURRRRVE Megan Mullaly.

August is sweeping, as I knew/hoped it would. Now in the bag-“Best Direction of a Play” Tony.

YEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSS. Deanna Dunagan just won the “Best Actress in a Play” Tony for August. The only bad thing about this is that Amy Morton, her costar, didn’t win it. And they dared to play wrap-it-up-music for Deanna’s thank you. Jerks. How dare you disrespect this brilliant Chicago Artist.

In the Heights seems pretty sweet. I’d like to see it, for sure.

Daniel Radcliffe is a Little Hottie. He’s presenting for “Best Play”. And the winner is…AUGUST:OSAGE COUNTY! Woot. I know I sound like a broken record going on and on about how awesome it was...but seriously it was amazing. And you know someone else who’s in it? The guy who plays Thatcher Gray on Grey’s Anatomy. I can’t remember his name, damn. But he did an incredible job.

Sunday in the Park with George. Amazing. And Jenna Russell looks like the girl who plays Eva on Grey’s Anatomy. Gosh, it’s a beautiful show. Visually and aurally. Gorgeous.

Oh My. Glenn Close looks HOT. Hmmm…not sure how I feel about South Pacific winning “Best Revival of a Musical.” Of course, I didn’t see it so I can’t say it was bad or anything. And it was put on by The Lincoln Center, and they do amazing stuff. I just think that Sunday was aweeeeesome. But, way to go Mr. Producer of Roger and Hammerstein’s South Pacific, for including the stage managers in your thank you’s. J

Original cast of Rent. Baller. However short and sweet the performance was.

WHAT’S UPPPPPP LIZA MINELLI!??!?!!!!! I’m pretty sure she’s wearing a black lacy bra and a over sized men’s tuxedo jacket—with nothing in between. But it’s ok, because she’s Liza. And really, did Stew from Passing Strange just wear those clown glasses w/ nose and mustache when his name got read for nominee? Wow. South Pacific is taking home the house.

Fuck Yeah HRH Patti LuPone, “Best Actress in a Musical” for Gypsy. God I love her. “I was afraid to write a speech because a couple of them never made it out of my purse, so I’m gonna use an old one and add some names.” Bitchin’. Oh, and she thanked the stage managers too. She gets a second Fuck Yeah. And how dare you play wrap-it-up-music to HRH Patti. Oh wait, she told them to “Shut Up!” That’s 3 Fuck Yeah’s for Patti.

Whoopi was a great host, for sure. Mizz Announcer Lady says “And now, to present the Tony Award for Best Musical, the Tony, Emmy, Oscar” *cut off by Whoopi saying* “cut the ‘Tony, Emmy, Oscar’ stuff already, they know it’s me.” I find that to be hysterical.

All in all, a gooood night of Tony watching. Now? Bed Time.

I know I Can

So I had this really long dream this morning about this kid I went to 1st-8th grade with, named Nick B. He was playing a character in August:Osage County, which I saw in NY and was one of the best things I've ever seen. Only it wasn't the same as the real show; the story was different, but the set was the same. Weird, huh?

I also saw Gypsy (with the EVER FABULOUS Patti LuPone-from the center of the front row, too), Passing Strange, and the revival of Sunday in the Park with George (at the legendary Studio 54). 4 shows in 3 days. Plus, the night we were in Chicago before we left for NY the next morning, instead of getting dinner with my mom and aunt, mom took us to see Wicked.

And a Yankees game.

Yikes.

And lastly, one of the ladies in Intimate Apparel at the Civic is a MarComm writer for SMC and writes the face to face articles on the homepage. She decided to interview and write and article about me for it. I hope it pulls people into our department. The theatre dept at SMC doesn't get a lot of press or attention, and we're always looking to expand, so I hope some prospective students see it and become interested in us.

The Difference Is He Didn't Have to Be President on Television

So I'm finally home in my own bed in my own house in Indy. It feels great. Weird at the same time.Despite the miserable parts of the last two weeks at the Civic (when someone flipped their shit), I had an absolutely amazing experience. The set turned out really well, thanks to a number of people who really pulled through for me. I couldn't appreciate them and the work they did more!

The show opened Friday to a stellar audience. They were laughing at things we didn't know were funny. They cried. And they gave us a standing ovation. Of course, in the booth, I was gonna stand for the amazing cast no matter what, but it was even better that the whole house agreed.

The South Bend Tribune came on Friday night and wrote a STELLAR review. AND...They had some nice things to say about my set. My first time in the newspaper (as, you know, stage managers don't generally get written about) and I get two paragraphs! There are photos of the show on the site as well. This is the first one, and if you click next, you'll get to see nine of them.

A good time was had by all at various bars and restaurants post rehearsals and shows this week. That's always good. And I got to know some incredible people while working on this show. While I am so absolutely excited to be home (and to be going to New York on THURSDAY!!!), I really, really miss the cast and crew of this show. I don't usually experience this. I think it must be because of how well they treated me (especially after the bad stuff went down). I'm sure part of it has to do with my may or may not having a super crush on a cast member. Shhh...don't tell.

My parents came up for the show last night. We went to the LaSalle Grill for dinner (my dad said right before graduation that he'd always wanted to try the Tippecanoe Place and the LaSalle Grill. We did Tippecanoe after graduation, and we got LaSalle in last night-good work, Deeters.

I gave them a tour of the theatre, and of my set, and then sat in the audience with them and watched like a real audience member. Of course, I did some saving of the light board op and some trouble shooting for some cast members etc, but I wouldn't have it any other way. And I sewed on the button at intermission. Not a button...THE button. My parents absolutely loved the show, and the set of course-but they have to love that. My mom cried like a baby. It was stellar. And of course I jumped out of my seat to standing ovate them last night as well (I'm aware that's not a word, but who cares, I like it). The boyfriend of the director and the sound board op (director's nephew) joined me, and soon after the rest of the house did too. I couldn't have been more proud of a group of people (exception: my comp).

After the show I introduced my parents around to the cast and crew etc, and everyone loved each other. Dana, the director, had us do some cast/crew pictures on the set and required my to be in the front of the pictures. Yikes. We took some crazy shots too--and in case you didn't know (and can't tell by the picture) the show was not only called Intimate Apparel, but was about it too ;).
Now I'm home, trying to make my room habitable. All of my stuff, save what I had with me the last 2 weeks, is in storage. I have to go get my clothes, toiletries, and shoes tomorrow, so that I can be all packed for THE New York Trip by Wednesday afternoon. Yikes!!!
Post New York Trip, there will be a family get together to celebrate the graduation, and the purging of my room to turn it from make shift storage for my mom (as it's been for the last 4 years) back into my room that will be a nice place for me to live for the next year.

to learn more, go to...... .com

I've done a lot since my last post, and in an effort to save us all some time, I'll just list stuff.

-Moved out of 430 Le Mans Hall. Packed the dad's van, then took 2 hampers and a suitcase to Castle Point to live til the end of the month.
-Began realizing a scene design at the Civic here for Intimate Apparel.
-Had said design be beautiful. I know that's really self-praise-filled and all, but, for reasons you will see in the next item, it's been a rough week and so I'm really proud of myself for getting through this far.
-Had the TD, who is usually a very jovial, nice man fucking EXPLODE at me. Not because of my actions in particular, but I was the outlet, and boy was it terrifying.
-Tonight, said TD tried to make amends in a most awkward way of saying the set looks really nice.
-Officially gotten over the most recent crush I've had.
-After asking a certain person if he'd come see a dress rehearsal for my show (I invited him and everyone else to the real show, but tickets are expensive, and I can bring whomever I want to dress rehearsals for free) and he said "Are you acting in it? No? then just show me pictures." Yeah, douchy, right?
-Officially fallen in love with an older man. Ok, he's not like OLD. He's just older than me. I don't actually know how old he is. I'm guessing 30.
-Bonded with Caroline's devil cat Lola.
-Grilled out TWICE. On daddy deeter's awesome portable grill. He brought it up for us to use between senior week and when I come home next weekend.
-Bought my airline tickets for NYC with Fur. Booked our hostel. Ordered our Yankees tickets.
-Cooked spaghetti. I realize that cooking isn't usually an accomplishment for people. But for me, it's huge. I've never cooked before. And this past week staying at an apartment is my first experience not having a dining hall or being at home where my parents always cook or we eat out.
-Went to a graduation party where I had the best cake ever, played Apples to Apples with some of my fave people, roasted mallows, dipped the roasted mallows in melted chocolate and teddy grahms, and told ghost stories.
-Had tech and first dress for Intimate Apparel.
-Drove home in the worst downpour/storm I've ever experienced. That was tonight. And I thought I was going to die.

4.23.2008

Let's not discuss it.

So my dearest dearest Perkins and I got emotional tonight. It was our last opening night at SMC. Also our last show working together, and her last show ever. (of course, unless I open a theatre, cuz if so, I will call her, and she will drop everything she's doing and be my td :) ) Anyways. I got a little emotional, I'm not gonna lie. I mean, it's not AS bad since its the opera and not a main stage, and my last main stage kind of snuck by me (thankfully).

In honor of my last opening night at SMC, I will share an interesting tidbit/scary story from this week. Not SCARY scary, like ironic/weird/coincidental scary:

So the second electric in O'Laughlin is 2 pipes chained together so that it holds all the weight. So that means 2 people have to pull it in. Michaela and I went to bring in the second electric together a couple of days ago, and something weird happened. And I am not exaggerating this. Literally every single motion we made to bring in the fly was EXACTLY THE SAME. EXACTLY. We pulled up the lock the same, we flipped down the lever the same, we pulled the ropes the same AND at the same speed, we flipped the lever up the same, and we put the safety ring on the same. THE EXACT SAME. After we put on the safety ring, we looked at each other with huge eyes, border line freaking out at how weird the whole thing was. Seriously, it was weeiirrd. I guess it means we work together a lot? Or that she's taught me a lot? Or something. Anyways, that was a weird experience. Have you ever had something like that happen? When you go through a sequence of something with someone and apparently you do it all the same???

4.22.2008

something in italian

Today has been full of ups and downs, stresess and reliefs. And as of now, it is mostly reliefs.

Had a big scare that for one reason or another I was less than half way done with my hours for my internship this semester. Yeah, I freaked out when I found that out. Found out today that I'm only 6 hours away from being completed with the hours. *PHEW*

Tonight was first dress. That's always fun. And since it's so beautiful outside, it's ROASTING inside (mostly just Moreau/O'Laughlin). And the fans have to be off in O'L for the show. So, needless to say, it's HOT.

Now if only I could get this Voice and Movement paper started and finished, life would be pretty good.

And it's a weird feeling to have just finished my last first dress at SMC.

4.17.2008

seriously? wow.

This is terrifiying.

After I read it, I was thinking about what I would do if I were a kid there or a parent of a kid. Do you stay home/keep your kid home just to be on the safe side? Or do you go to school/send your kid to school to keep on living and not give these idiots the power. Is staying home giving them power if you're trying to protect yourself? I can't imagine how one would feel if she stayed home and then something horrible DID happen and she didn't have to try to survive it. Would people call her a wimp? Wow. That's intense.

We worked on the opera set/lights from 6:30pm-12:00am tonight. ANd it's still earlier than I normally go to bed, but that work is tiring as all get out. And the worst part of it is that (most) the girls in the opera don't have any respect for what we are doing and that we have 5 days to load in from scratch. Apparently magical ferries (how do you spell that?!?) come in and it's easy peasy. That makes me so upset. There's no need to bow down to us, or even to thank us. Just respect what we're doing, please. And I said "(most)" because they aren't ALL like that, which is nice. The girls who are grateful and respectful are the ones you (I'm) willing to bend over backwards to help out, and that makes it a little easier on days when you're totally exhausted.

4.10.2008

may be done with your tuppence.

So remember how yesterday was a terrible day? Yeah. I do. Well, guess what? Today was the OPPOSITE!!!!!!!!!!

I spent a good 2 hours last night scouring job sites just in case. The loan thing really made me stressed out about my future. And I have trouble dealing with "I don't know" situations.

WELL, I finally popped in Rumor Has It and fell asleep on top of my phone while playing Scrabble on it.

Luckily for me, I didn't have to go to my internship today because my supervisor is on vacation. So I told Melissa I'd be in an hour early to put in some extra time for preparation for Stop Kiss.

Well (again), I woke up at 12:10. 35 minutes before I had to be in the costume shop, and I had to get dressed, check my email, and eat lunch (not necessarily in that order). What was in my email, you ask?

An email from IRT. I got the Production Assistant/ASM job for which I interviewed twice and REALLY wanted. AHHHHHHH!! SO excited.

So, that means you all need to move to Indianapolis and become season ticket subscribers to IRT. Now.

And some pictures from School House Rock Live!

4.07.2008

figure eight is double four

Schoolhouse Rock Live! opened tonight. It went well.
Good show.

Except I forgot to push up the C/D faders and the macros for the first song didn't run. Oops.
In my defense...someone ELSE had come in and turned on the board before I got there to do my channel check etc, so I thought it was all done. Had it been left for me, I would have gotten it all. Of course, I should have checked anyways...damn.

Happy almost weekend!

Also, the last four episodes of the Office are playing right now. As hosted by my boyfriend, John Krasinski. Woohoo.

Also also, the Yankees won tonight. Which is good. Cuz they got spanked last night.

Yes, I am aware that almost every-single-one-of-my-posts ends with an "Also...". oh well

4.01.2008

INTERJECTIONS SHOW EXCITEMENT

Schoolhouse Rock Live! opens tomorrow for preview at the Civic. I'm excited, and it has DEFINITELY been an interesting few days. That's for damn sure.

I went to bed with Interplanet Janet in my head. I woke up this morning with the Noun song in my head. I went to work at the Civic today with Mr. Morton in my head. I got back to my room after tech tonight with the Noun song in my head again. I now have Interjections stuck in my head.

What's your favorite School House Rock song?

3.29.2008

Only Have Til Dawn

I had 3 moments today.

The third (and least important) was when I was in the elevator headed back up to my room after a day full of tech at the Civic and it smelled like sweaty beer. Gross.

The second was at the Civic tonight. Greta and I were writing cues after rehearsal was over. More like working on cue notes and what not. I was sitting at the board fixing some programming, and she was leaning back in a seat in the house and announced that there was a bat in the theatre. Which, apparently, is a sign of good luck for a show. The Civic is in a converted Masonic Temple building, so its creepy. But the best part of this moment was that I felt like I was in an episode of the Office. You know which one I mean. The one with the bat. I'm pretty sure I reacted like a cross between Angela/Pam/Kelly. It was classy. I was scared shitless, not gonna lie. It was my first REAL experience with something like that, and I am NOT a nature person...

The first, and obviously better, moment was as I was walking from my car to Le Mans tonight. Every once in a while I have a moment like this. I get into this weird content state when I just KNOW I've made the right choice of what to do with my life. And tonight, it couldn't have come at a better time. This whole job search thing is taking a toll on me, and making me question things I have been so certain of for so long. I needed this moment.

What caused said moment, you might ask? A long day of tech, which included lots of cue writing and lighting work. And being given responsibility. The lighting designer left me, her assistant, with stuff to do while she had an appointment. And I did it. And when we both came back after dinner, she said it was done well. The cue writing thing was big too. I haven't done much SMing recently, and I miss it (despite it's cons). And I'm not SMing Schoolhouse Rock Live! per se, but there is no SM so I have to lay all the cues out in a book, and keep the spot light op on her mark. So that is a nice SM fix until the opera hits. Call me crazy, but I love it. This is one of the few things that makes me feel like I'm doing purposeful work.

Also, I may or may not have worn out my DVD player. Usually I say may or may not and I mean that I did something I shouldn't or didn't do something that I should. In this case, I'm not quite sure. I'll be sure to keep you posted. But it really pisses me off, cuz I haven't had this one a year yet. Yeah, I use it a LOT, but it's a NICE one. Portable. Plays iPod videos and off of a memory card. Yeah. Pissed. Any advice for getting a DVD player to work again?

Expect Problems, and Eat Them For Breakfast

I've recently discovered some interesting things about me. I realized that they have been around for a while, however I wasn't actually aware of them. Here are some of them:

1. I absolutely HATE having wet ears. Of any type. Water in my ears, on my ears, whatever. So I have added an ear drying to my post shower routine.

2. I don't like to be touched. Although it's hard to classify it like that. I love hugs. I don't mind poking or tapping or tickling other things from people I'm close to in very particular situations. But in general, I HATE to be touched around the middle area of my body. It freaks me out. It makes me tense. It scares me. Whatever. So, someone putting their hand on my stomach while I breathe in Voice and Movement class??? NOT OK. Sorry, that wasn't one of the boundaries I agreed to give up for this class. I also tend to be a little picky about some cuddling. I love to cuddle, but certain placement of hands near my mid section make me nervous. Oddly enough, if I'm cuddling you, a boob graze or whatever isn't a big deal, but unless I'm in control of it, a hand on my stomach is not...weird.

3. I'm clumsy. Oh wait. Already knew that. But stepping on the cord that was the power source to the light board with 75+ freshly programmed light cues this morning made me remember.

4. I have to be covered to sleep. That's why it's so hard for me to sleep when it's hot. And by covered, I mean my upper body near my stomach, shoulders, arms, and neck in particular. I like to hug covers, blankets, teddy bears, whatever close to me.

5. The last addition for the day isn't really an about me. But I recently started watching some late night tv. Like Letterman, Leno, Conan, etc. I've always liked Letterman cuz he's from Indy, and I think Conan is hilarious. But it's a nice mix up for my usual movie while I fall asleep which wreaks havoc on my DVD player (hence my wearing out at least 3 DVD players since I started college(and at home too)).

Last night's late night TV was great because my boyfriend, John Krasinski, was on Leno. Leno is my least fave of the three I listed. He's really hard to understand sometimes because he mumbles or something. Not ONLY was my boyfriend, John Krasinski, on Leno(different link than previous, folks)...but Joe Torre of YANKEES FAME was on too. Couldn't have been more perfect. Ed Helms (Andy on the Office) was on Conan right after Leno, but he was the second guest and I fell asleep like 5 minutes too early :(. Figures. But it was for the best, as I had to wake up about 4 hours earlier than usual today. Balls.

Tech starts today for SCHOOL HOUSE ROCK LIVE! at the Civic. Whoa.

nice, nice, nice

Today was a good day. I feel like I bitch about things so often (on here and elsewhere), and I know it gets old.

But today was good. I had a great time at the Civic-while the train painting is on hiatus, I helped Greta with some seriously awesome light hanging and genie using. It was awesome. Work was uberfun for one reason or another. My good stories (ok, I think they are good) were actually good today and loved (or maybe people just had had a break and so their tolerance for deeter stories had been emptied to be refilled now, whatever I'll take it). There was plenty of joking and making fun of to go around. My favorite of which is:

Caroline talkign with Melissa about coloring her hair (in regards to upcoming production). She then says "But I'm not going to, because I have a special visitor coming, I don't want to risk anything." And we all just kind of pause. She's standing by the cabinets and (unbeknownst to me) takes a sip of her diet coke, I'm sitting at the surger (not using it, no way, id blow it up) and (apparently) as she takes the sip I say, half joking-half kidding, "what, your period?" and everyone about dies. Caroline does the almost spit out her coke thing. It was fantastic. Not cuz I was funny, I don't mean this in the 'gimme attention' sort of way, i just mean that it was just a generally funny thing that we all bonded over. Gawd, I sound like an idiot.

Plus, people in my ICS class were bitch about our work load (which is actually isn't much, and I'm the first to complain about work loads), so our professor eliminated one project (by giving us the choice between the two, and one of them is the one I was most dreading), and making our 3 required intercultural campus events extra credit. sweet.

Plus I didn't have rehearsal or anything. The one bad thing about today was the working on scheduling of costume fittings for the opera. There aren't words for the frustration it causes. Don't get me wrong, I love stage managing and all it entails, but this was intense. I literally spent about 3 hours straight working on it. I know it doesnt sound like osmething that would take that long, but trust me. lists of names and emails to compile, figuring out who's who, and other things. gah.

So instead of climbing into bed to watch movies at 7pm as planned, I;ve been scheduling...and now it 1245. damn. and ive been up til at least 3 every night since getting back to school. balls. oh well. it was still a good day. Also, I did the paperwork to get my SMC license plate :)

In Your Face Sucker!!

This post will consist of 3 things. And they are all of equal awesomeness, so don't skip any! Also there will be pictorial narration to go along with them all.

Thing 1: Giraffes are truly an underappreciated animal. They are so cute, and while I wouldn't venture to call them cuddly, oh to hell with it, I think they are cuddly. I would love to have my own baby giraffe. I think I'd name him (or her, I'm not giraffe sexist) Piggy. Actually, that's what I'm naming my next dog.

For one reason or another, I love giraffes. I have this story from when I was a kid. I was like 8 or something, and I was in the upstairs bathroom with my mom, sitting on the side of the tub watching her tweeze her eyebrows or something, and it was Christmas. Here is the conversation:

8 year old deet: oh no, mommy! I forgot to send Santa my Christmas list; he's not going to know what I want! (cuz 8 year olds use semi-colons).
tweezing mom: it's ok, honey. I think Santa knows, and it will be ok.
8 year old deet: but mom, i really really really want a stuffed giraffe for Christmas and I'm not sure Santa knows! What should I do?!? (even at a young age I was trouble shooting like a proper stage manager).
Tweezing mom: carole, dear, (cuz she says things like that-still does), It'll be alright. Santa's really smart, so don't worry.

And guess who DIDN'T get a stuffed giraffe for Christmas that year? Or ever? That's right. And the little 8 yaer old inside me is still upset.

I told this story over CHristmas this year and then again while shopping with my mom (no, no tweezing involved) over spring break. I told her I wasn't sure why I love them, and she informed me that my baby room had giraffes all over the yellow wall paper. Whoa.

Thing 2: THIS IS AWESOME. FOR ALL YOU STRUGGLING ARTISTS OR WHATEVER OUT THERE, READ THIS. i LOVE it.

Thing 3: I painted a caboose today. Bright red. A giant one. It was awesome. I think it is the best job I've ever been assigned at both the Civic and in the SMC scene shop. What's it for, you ask? SCHOOL HOUSE ROCK LIVE! the musical. Complete with exclamation mark.
