I don't usually get into political things on my blog or in person. Don't get me wrong. I do have political opinions and leanings, I just don't do the research to continually back myself up or what not, so I don't think it's fair of me to get into any sort of argument or state my views because I acknowledge that they might not be accurate. Every once in a while I will voice something, but I've decided it's not too proper to go around blurting out whether or not I like certain people when I haven't done the homework to know what I'm talking about. Also, people seem to judge me weirdly on my political stances. Well not PEOPLE in general, just a few. I have a weird mix of opinions, so I'd say it might be hard to categorize me-as it is for most people. (For example, I consider myself conservative economically, but I do support certain aspects of welfare (especially for the elderly), and I support gay marriage and am big into the arts...see what I mean?)

Anyways, one thing has been bothering me recently...(and I apologize if what I'm saying is totally off its mark, as I said I don't really do the homework, so I don't feel it's right to say things sometimes).

It all started with one of the many many blogs I read on my google reader (thanks again fellow bloggers for introducing me to this aMAZing tool). Specifically one of the pop culture/mocking ones, although I can't remember which it was. But the gist of the article was about a website solely devoted to pictures of flicking off or hating (I can't remember which ) Hummers. The site explination was accompanied by a testimony of an American woman who loathes Hummers. In it, she told how her brother was in the armed forces and was injured in combat. Part of his compensation (or whatever) fromthe US government was a brand new Hummer. She less than subtly hinted at the fact that part of the reason we are fighting the war has to do with oil, etc, and it's ridiculous that in a time when gas is so precious and expensive and what not, the people fighting the war or whatever give a man injured in the line of duty a vehicle that just wastes an ungodly amount of fuel. And I agree. That may or may not be just SLIGHTLY bogus. And by slightly, I mean insanely. Again--my details might not be completely accurate.

So that got me to thinking. People who drive Hummers are insanely selfish. Of course that is a gross generalization. But think about it...and it applies to people with certain other cars to, but Hummers in particular...people are so worried about gas these days. Gas is outrageously expensive and isn't an unlimited resource. People who drive cars that only get like 5 miles to the gallon not only a HUGE waste on this very unlimited precious resource, but their need to constantly buy gas on an every-other-day-basis is jacking up the price for those of us who drive more fuel friendly cars because it's depleting the resource. So, that really bothers me.

I was in the car on our neverending day of errands with my mom and dad on the Saturday before Easter, and we were next to a Hummer at a stop light where there was a gas station at the intersection. That's where this whole thing came to fruition in my mind (is that the right use of that word? I really wanted to use it.) And I don't really get too steamed up about global warming. So I said out loud (cuz sometimes I say things to myself) "I don't know why anyone would want to drive a Hummer" and explained my quick little reasoning there. And my dad said he thinks they are nice cars and he wouldn't mind one. But that obviously he wouldn't get one, let alone be able to afford it. And I felt a little bit badly for then criticizing my dad like that, so I backpeddled and explained some more. But it's ok to think they are cool cars and what not, but not ever buy one...right? God, I feel silly being upset that I'm criticizing him on this. There are so many other things that he does that I totally disagree with and have no problem. Weird. Whatever, at the end of the day, there are other cars I'm sure he'd like more, plus like I said, we could never afford it.

So...there it is. My little political rant for the day...or week, whatever.
Also, since I'm on topic. I'm really sick of reading all of the headlines about the hearsay in the Democratic race for the candidacy. It just makes the two of them look so unclassy with all the name calling. Political affiliations aside, who wants a president who is such a poor competitor? And I'm 98% sure I'd say the same thing about Republicans. Plus, I like Obama. But yeah. Get over the he said she said, name calling, and bull shit, and just work to prove yourself as the better candidate.
