wait for it--the hodgepodge edition

I've learned a lot about myself in the last week or so. Equal parts of the responsibility for this go to 1) the book I just finished (Eat, Pray, Love) and 2) the Summer Job Hunt.

One of the things I learned? Stepping back and letting things soak in is NOT a skill set that I in any way possess. Be the things good or bad, I tend to react with a sense of immediacy, no matter how unnecessary.

Something else I've learned? I will never, EVER be able to figure out why certain nine year old girls are so obscenely rude and hateful. Never. I have to accept this fact and continue working to make the impact of said rude/hatefulness on others as small as possible.

I watched Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist today after work. LOVED IT. Go and watch it.

In other news, did I mention I joined Twitter? Yes, I did. But I need to reiterate that I LOVE it.

Also, I think I'm going to keep a running log of the books I read. For some reason, this seems like a fun idea.

don't you?

So I joined Twitter today. Check me out. Hopefully I'll figure it out soon. If any of you use it, tell me!!

Happy Profile-ing

Here are some pretty good tips on keeping yourself safe online.

When I started looking for a job last year, I decided to make my facebook profile more "possible employer friendly". This didn't involve a lot, since I wasn't the wildest of college students, but I did take off some of the more tasteless stuff. Plus, no matter how much you think it takes away from the 'essence of you', being mysterious and leaving stuff to be imagined is way more appealing.

Luckily for me (not that that I actually had anything to hide), my new boss added me as a friend over the summer before I even started working.

oh, you know, the usual

Again, I sing the praises of Zappos.com. Seriously, if you've never used them, then do it. Now. Best.Place.On.Earth. I tried another site, zbsports.com, to order the same shoes because they were cheaper on there, but believe me, the $9 I woulda saved was NOT WORTH IT.

Tech is...well, it's tech. It went pretty well, although we haven't actually finished teching the show (but to no fault of stage management and the PAs :) ). Three 13 hour days in a row was rough. Today's my day off, and then the rest of the week will be pretty rough, but hopefully not as rough as this weekend.

I got some tragic news this weekend...on Thursday I got a facebook message from a girl at SMC who lived in my hall first year, and who I knew relatively well. She and I share a very good mutual friends. Well, she told me that this friend of ours', one of my closest friends at SMC, I'd say, mother passed away. I'm still completely in shock, and I cannot even begin to imagine how she must be feeling. I'm totally heartbroken for her and her family. I know how close and tight knit they were (very similar to me and mine). If you're the praying type, please send some extra prayers towards Buffalo, NY this week.

keep on tellin me

Ok, so I have to admit that I read Perez Hilton. I do think a lot of his opinions on stuff is sketchy and crude, but at the same time I have an addiction to the pictures (although I could definitely do without the crude drawings on them) and the celeb 'news'. Ok, begin judgment, I'm prepared now.

But THIS is ABSOfreakinLUTELY hilarious. It goes along COMPLETELY with my utter abhorrence of not only The Hills, but ESPECIALLY Speidi.

Happy 100th To Me!!

In honor of my post #100, I'm gonna post something adorable!

Although, in light of seeing HRH Patti in Gypsy, a story about the epitome of stage moms, at first I wasn't sure at the amount of adorable-ness seen here. Although I don't think these parents aren't too Mama Rose-esque. Without further ado...

Science of Progress

So we all know I'm a blog fiend. Or maybe we don't. Well I heard through the grapevine about Google Reader. And now it runs my life. I found all sorts of blogs to subscribe to in addition to the ones of people I actually know. Yankees blogs both from actual news sites and 2 Yankees bloggers (both for different newspapers), The Office blogs, the Post Secret feed (ok, I've been a huge Post Secret fan for a long time. Religiously), celebrity and pop culture blogs, Broadway and theatre ones, and other random ones.

Like I said, it has become an insane addiction. I LOVE reading all sorts of shit. Not that all of it is shit, of course. Well, I've been reading these for a while. And I'm so proud of myself, I've found one that I actually don't like. I know, big deal. But actually it is. When it comes to newspapers, magazines, and what not, I generally don't have opinions about them or react to them (yes, I'm aware that this is not good), unless they are actually offensive about something, completely 100% the opposite of my opinion, or are saying something bad about something I love (for example: bad mouthing The Office or Diet Coke). I just, generally, like to read things from various sources to entertain myself, waste time, inform me, whatever. But rarely do I not like something because of the spin or angle a particular writer, columnist, paper, etc takes. There are some sports columnists for the Star in Indy that my dad HATES cuz they're flip floppers, or trash talk Notre Dame or other teams my dad likes just to get attention. I've never experienced this. However, this one blog that I have found that I don't like does just that. It reports the same things that some of the other blogs and sites to which I subscribe, but it puts an extreme and extremely negative twist on EVERYTHING, and it's SO frustrating.

Anyways, I'm aware that lazy reading like I do isn't generally good or is totally irresponsible, so that's why I'm proud of this. Sure, it's not like a major website or anything of great importance, but it says something about my progression as a person...right?

I apologize for my seeming stupidity and laziness. Thankfully (as my dad says) I'm not as much of either as I sound.

autosaved nonesenseeee

I don't usually get into political things on my blog or in person. Don't get me wrong. I do have political opinions and leanings, I just don't do the research to continually back myself up or what not, so I don't think it's fair of me to get into any sort of argument or state my views because I acknowledge that they might not be accurate. Every once in a while I will voice something, but I've decided it's not too proper to go around blurting out whether or not I like certain people when I haven't done the homework to know what I'm talking about. Also, people seem to judge me weirdly on my political stances. Well not PEOPLE in general, just a few. I have a weird mix of opinions, so I'd say it might be hard to categorize me-as it is for most people. (For example, I consider myself conservative economically, but I do support certain aspects of welfare (especially for the elderly), and I support gay marriage and am big into the arts...see what I mean?)

Anyways, one thing has been bothering me recently...(and I apologize if what I'm saying is totally off its mark, as I said I don't really do the homework, so I don't feel it's right to say things sometimes).

It all started with one of the many many blogs I read on my google reader (thanks again fellow bloggers for introducing me to this aMAZing tool). Specifically one of the pop culture/mocking ones, although I can't remember which it was. But the gist of the article was about a website solely devoted to pictures of flicking off or hating (I can't remember which ) Hummers. The site explination was accompanied by a testimony of an American woman who loathes Hummers. In it, she told how her brother was in the armed forces and was injured in combat. Part of his compensation (or whatever) fromthe US government was a brand new Hummer. She less than subtly hinted at the fact that part of the reason we are fighting the war has to do with oil, etc, and it's ridiculous that in a time when gas is so precious and expensive and what not, the people fighting the war or whatever give a man injured in the line of duty a vehicle that just wastes an ungodly amount of fuel. And I agree. That may or may not be just SLIGHTLY bogus. And by slightly, I mean insanely. Again--my details might not be completely accurate.

So that got me to thinking. People who drive Hummers are insanely selfish. Of course that is a gross generalization. But think about it...and it applies to people with certain other cars to, but Hummers in particular...people are so worried about gas these days. Gas is outrageously expensive and isn't an unlimited resource. People who drive cars that only get like 5 miles to the gallon not only a HUGE waste on this very unlimited precious resource, but their need to constantly buy gas on an every-other-day-basis is jacking up the price for those of us who drive more fuel friendly cars because it's depleting the resource. So, that really bothers me.

I was in the car on our neverending day of errands with my mom and dad on the Saturday before Easter, and we were next to a Hummer at a stop light where there was a gas station at the intersection. That's where this whole thing came to fruition in my mind (is that the right use of that word? I really wanted to use it.) And I don't really get too steamed up about global warming. So I said out loud (cuz sometimes I say things to myself) "I don't know why anyone would want to drive a Hummer" and explained my quick little reasoning there. And my dad said he thinks they are nice cars and he wouldn't mind one. But that obviously he wouldn't get one, let alone be able to afford it. And I felt a little bit badly for then criticizing my dad like that, so I backpeddled and explained some more. But it's ok to think they are cool cars and what not, but not ever buy one...right? God, I feel silly being upset that I'm criticizing him on this. There are so many other things that he does that I totally disagree with and have no problem. Weird. Whatever, at the end of the day, there are other cars I'm sure he'd like more, plus like I said, we could never afford it.

So...there it is. My little political rant for the day...or week, whatever.
Also, since I'm on topic. I'm really sick of reading all of the headlines about the hearsay in the Democratic race for the candidacy. It just makes the two of them look so unclassy with all the name calling. Political affiliations aside, who wants a president who is such a poor competitor? And I'm 98% sure I'd say the same thing about Republicans. Plus, I like Obama. But yeah. Get over the he said she said, name calling, and bull shit, and just work to prove yourself as the better candidate.

Ok--stepping off soap box....NOW.

It was a good day :)

2.23.2008

So I was just dickin around on freerice.com and they had a word WRONG. If you're unfamiliar with the site, the game you play (which 'give rice to an impoverished country') where it gives you a word and you have to pick which word defines it...right.

Whatever.

Today was my birthday. well, yesterday. And it was KILLER great! I'll post about the fun festivities later. I spent the entire day in the shop/theatre building for my comp. I'm so tired it hruts. I'm so cold it hurts. I'm so sore it hurts. Wait...but seriously. I can't even tell you how many cuts and scrapes I have ALL THE FREAK OVER ME.

Just watched "Knocked up" at Ays and Carolines. Of course, Carol and I were the only ones to make it all the way thru. Jacob was there, but he left half way through. There were 4-yeah I said FOUR-cameos from the office in it...First BJ Novak aka Ryan, then the guy who plays Darrel, THEN STEVE CARRELL. Seriously. I probably spelled half those names wrong. Whatever, its 3am after my birthday who cares

4 DAYS TIL MY COMP> AH!

the entire world served....

Today at work in the costume studio:

Me: *continues on talking and talking as I work*
Melissa: I don't want to listen to "the booty song"
Me: I got a new CD!!!!!
Carol: do you have it with you?
Me: YES! *gets CD from bag* everyone's sure i can put this in? *puts in CD*
Melissa: Hey Deet, I'll give you $100 if you don't talk for the next 18 minutes!
Me: 18 Minutes?!? OK!
Melissa: You lost!
Me: No, I can do this. 18 minutes.
Carol: 18 minutes. Starting....NOW
Me: *mouths 'now'*

That's what I did at work today. I went like 22 minutes. It was impressive. In those 22 minutes of silence, I realized that I have to ACTIVELY not talk. Most people can just not talk, but for me, it's an ACTIVE thing. I have to think about it and try. Whereas, talking...is a natural thing, half the time I don't realize I'm doing it. Whoa.

That new CD??? Nicole Atkins. I recently took some people's advice and got Google Reader (LOVE IT) and then subscribed to some feeds, pop culture and celebrities, and one of the articles mentioned her.
"Take a little bit of Norah Jones, a dash of Regina Spektor and a hint of Ronnie Spector"

And although I'm anti-myspace, she has a page that has her album on it and you can listen to it. Check it out.

Lastly. For real. A good friend of mine had this as her away message...and it applies DIRECTLY to me. "
Never allow someone to be your priority, while allowing yourself to be their option."
