I've had some pretty interesting run ins with homeless people/bums this week.
I stopped at a gas station the other night to get gas on my way home from work, and a homeless man approached me, told me he was an ex-con and recently out of prison, slept at the White Castle across the street, and asked if I had any money I could give him for food. (Mind you he approached me in a way that can only be construed as forcing himself on me.) I honestly (seriously) didn't have any cash on me--I rarely carry it, but I did have the remnants of my lunch on the seat next to me. I offered him my unopened bag of cookies (100 Calorie Oreos), and he turned his nose up at them. He told me they weren't good for his teeth, and didn't I have any cash??? I said no again, to which he replied "ok, well thanks..." When I asked if he still wanted the cookies, he said no and walked away. Me thinks he probably wasn't going to use the money for food...cuz if he really was in need of food, wouldn't he have taken any free offer??? Or is that snobby of me to think that. I had an apple in the lunch bag that I probably woulda given him too, but cookies were the first word that came to mind.
There's also a homeless man that hangs out on the corner of Washington and Illinois downtown--a corner we all must use in order to get to work daily. I have heard tales of this man who says to every woman who walks by "you're the prettiest lady I've seen all day" but had never experienced it personally. When I was walking out a couple of days ago, he was walking towards The Theatre. I was on my phone, but as he passed I got more than his standard. I got "you're the prettiest lady I've seen all day! Smile, you're on candid camera!" Crazy.
Then today, something weirder happened. Across the street from The Theatre is a giant banking building that takes up the whole block with a food court of some sort in the bottom. Plus it has a hotel too. On one of its corners (one I pass between parking garage and The Theatre daily) is a big sign that kinda makes a V so you can see if from both streets, and the point of the V is closest to the corner. Also, I was wearing my bright green tennis shoes today. So while I was approaching the corner, I hear "hey lady with green shoes. *pause* hey green shoes" come from somewhere. It sounded like it was coming from the other side of the sign...then as I passed the point of the V, I heard it again "hey there green shoes! green shoes!!" And I realized that a person had to have been sitting inside the sign and must've seen me coming. It was a weird experience for sure.

I've got a theory...
So I was driving home from Frankie's tonight around 12:30am, and a woman was walking along the side of the road, going with traffic mind you, pulling a carry on sized suitcase. Weird. What are your theories on where she was going/what she was doing??? By the time I got home (a 10 minute drive), I had fashioned a very dramatic story about her leaving a dirt bag boyfriend and what not. Very exciting stuff to compliment my very boring life.I arrived home to a super hyper Bailey at the front door who ran all around downstairs. Then I turned off the lights and walked up stairs to be scared half to death by MooMoo standing on the landing. In the dark, all you can see of her is her eyes and the white stripe on her chest. To many, it would be scary, but she was wagging her tail and hammin it up for me.
We watched Kate & Leopold tonight. It was adorable, and I'm surprised I've never seen it.
Hopefully tomorrow mom and I are will go (back) down to the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. I've been with my Aunt K (twice), but not with the mom.
The top picture is 4 out of 5 of "the girls" at our senior band camp in high school. The bottom is the 4 of us last night for Crabs' going away. That's a five year difference, but we've been together for 8. Nostalgia anyone???

There's a map or a clue to a map!
It's not a trip for a member of the Deeter Family, unless something bad happens or there's a blip on the radar. I took my mom to the airport tonight for her trip to a conference in Chicago/to hang with her sister. Of course my mom getting ready for a trip always causes insanity at my house--it's like the house flips upside down and runs in double time. Anyways, she decides not to pack until she gets home from work today, she left at 3, and her flight was at 7:45...anyways, she got packed in time and we left on time. There are 2 options for getting to 465, the highway that loops around Indy, off of which is the airport, from my house-actually, there are tons of options, but to get to that specific side of town there are only 2. So we pick option #2, and the ramp to 465 is closed. That's just how things roll for us Deeters.
In other travel related news, I'm meeting Fur at his house tomorrow at 2:00 to drive to Chicago because our flight to NYC leaves at 6am (Chicago time) Tursday. We'll have dinner with my mom and aunt and then crash at Fur's sister's place.
Oh and get this. On Monday, I went to my dad's office to get his car and keys so I could go to storage to get my clothes etc that they brought home from South Bend. So I walk into the building and 3 people are standing outside smoking. That's not so bad, I don't judge people who smoke. They decide that they are coming inside when I walk to the door, and they block the entrance. Then I get inside and head to the elevator, and it's obvious that these people want the elevator too, but they are lollygagging behind. So I stand and wait in the elevator holding the door open button for way too long waiting for them. I know, I know--I didn't have to wait for them, but if I didn't then I would have been an asshole, and I'm not like that. They finally get in the elevator, and it's 2 girls and a guy. And he's one of those outgoing in a douchy guys who is incredibly annoying, and generally rude.
I'm wearing my newest Saint Mary's t-shirt (we left South Bend on Sunday, and we made a last stop at the SMC bookstore and I got a new t-shirt and sweatshirt, cuz who knows when I'll be back up there :'( ). So this douchy guy looks at me with a smug look on his face and says "Saint Mary's, is that a real college?" And I ditch the nice, polite girl face, and I assume a "what the hell" face and say "yes." "Oh, well I didn't know...is it one of those nun-colleges?" I just look at him...and one of the girls says "duh, haven't you heard of Saint Mary's of the Woods? gosh. That's it, right?" And I politely say "No, its just a college, not a nun-school, and it's in South Bend...by Notre Dame." and Mr. Douche says "oh, I just figured it was a fake college. Like I went to Phoenix University and got my degree in 4 days." (Disclaimer: I don't necessarily thing Phoenix University is a fake or illegit school, I'm just quoting him.) And I get off the elevator, after looking at them with a nasty face, and walk into the firm.
Ok, so I'm not narcissistic enough to think that everyone knows what or where my beloved SMC is. But I do think that that's a pretty rude and obnoxious thing to say to someone on an elevator, especially while smirking. Also, it kind of puts a damper on a recent graduate's excitement about the future. Does anyone else think that's rude?

the great american...
One last post before bed.
There is this stop light near campus here in South Bend that if you EVER want to drive ANYWHERE you have to stop at it. Well, at least I always have. For those of you who know Suck Bend, or who live here, or go to school here, it's the one on 31/933 just north of campus for the Toll Road. ANYTIME I want to drive north of campus (i.e. to Castle Point, etc) or am coming from north of campus I have to stop. NEVER.FAILS. Well, tonight I was driving home from Castle Point after eating ham and watching License to Wed with Ays, I was on track to NOT HAVE TO STOP at said stop light. BUT (there's always a but) I was in the right lane, and in the left lane a few yards in front of me are two cop cars. Two DIFFERENT cop cars. Different styles of cars, and different groups (what do you call that?) of policemen. Then, one gets over into my lane and sloooooows the fuck down. Like to 15mph. And puts on his blinker, and ever so slowly eventually turns into the Perkins. And the other one? As soon as first cop turns into Perkins, he makes a U turn right there to then drive north. Weird, huh? Yeah. So because of the 3+ city blocks I had to drive behind said cop car going no greater than 20mph I had to stop again. Man.
Also (and I've started noticing that almost all of my posts have an "also"...), another little interesting tidbit about me. We all know I'm a movie addict. A movie freak, if you will. Whatever. I'll watch ALMOST ANY movie. With a few exceptions. And one of the things that makes me the most insane and frustrated when watching a movie? Conflicts that arise out of simply not communicating. There are so many movies when the whole thing could just be resolved with some simple back and forth honest talking. So the whole time I'm thinking "Seriously? All you have to say is _______, and get her/him to understand and it'll be FINE!!!" in addition to "Seriously? the weakest type of conflict, and therefore movie, is one based off of miscommunicating or failure to communicate. Seriously, you got paid to write this?" Sorry. It's a pet peeve of mine. And License to Wed was just that. Also, I can't take Mandy Moore seriously, and despite my LOOOVE of John Krasinski and Robin Williams, I refused to see it til now cuz I can't stand her.
Other movies that have the same problem? All the Meet The... movies (Parents, Faulkers, etc). While parts are funny, why can't they just communicate. There are others, but I'm too lazy and tired to list them. Do YOU have any pet peeves about movies or anything?
