thank goodness

T and I finished our marathon of the last season of Gilmore Girls. And we were blubbering fools.

While I was driving home from said final marathon, I had one of those moments. One of those moments when I realized that I'm living my dream. I'm doing the things that I've dreamed about for a while. And I realized how lucky I am.

I know it's not all perfect or ideal, and that after this season ends and before the next one begins (for which I've been asked back!!), I have to find summer work and that's a pain. But it's still amazing.

Hope you all had an amazing weekend!

busy busy television?

I realize that I've gone from a 5+ posts a week, to like 1 every 2 weeks. I know this doesn't affect a lot of people, cuz I know of only (literally) 4 people who read this blog. And no, I'm not saying that in a self pitying, please read my shit way. Just in a realistic way. It doesn't bother me at all.

It's just that I kinda miss coming home from whatever I'm doing and typing up stupid, mundane thoughts or tidbits. But by the time I get home from rehearsal, tech, shows, whatever, I'm so unbelievably tired and spent that I pass out to Gilmore Girls or a book. I can't tell you how many times in the lat 2 weeks I've thought "I wish I could share that with someone." And writing it here was my way of "sharing", however weird that sounds. So hopefully I'll begin to get more of a stamina for this whole ordeal and get back on the horse. Plus, I had been planning since like December to do NaBloPoMo, but by the time this month rolled around, I knew it'd be near impossible, and I'm totally bummed.

Well here's my interesting tidbit for the day. I love it when I benefit from my mom's crazy ideas, and today I benefited quite nicely. Chalk this up to the "materialistic" side of me (and judge me if you want), but who wouldn't appreciate this. My mom told me yesterday that she'd been 'considering' getting rid of our 3 big (as in twice the size of a microwave) TVs. 2 of which are ours (one is like 12 years old, the other is probably 10), and 1 we got when my Grandma moved from her apartment to the nursing home. The 12 year old TV was serving as my TV in my room for my nightly movie/whatever TV show I am currently watching on DVD.

Now, when my mom says 'considering', it either means she's been thinking about it for a long time, or she just thought of it and is throwing it out there. The other part of what she was considering was replacing 2 of them (the third is never used, and just sits in our basement) with flat screen TVs. This idea was excellent to me, seeing as one of the replacable ones was mine.

Long story short, I benefited because today we went to CostCo, and we got a 22" flat screen, HD TV (something I could NEVER, EVER afford on my own). Of course, the only one of these 3 TVs that gets used is the one in my room, so of course it only makes sense that it should be the first one to be replaced. And it was.

My mom's logic?? Getting rid of these TVs will create a TON more space (which is true) and make rooms more easily accessible. So during my mom's flip flopping today, my dad was able to convince her that getting the first one would give them the incentive to actually call the guy who hauls away junk (and sells it, so we get some $$ from it), to come and get the TVs and other stuff, as opposed to just talking about doing it. Obviously, daddy was on my side.

Long story short, I got a fancy new TV today. :)

(and don't worry, I'm INCREDIBLY grateful and appreciative)

One Down...Lots to Go

Wow. I made it through my first week in the big bad real world. And I loved it. I'm still getting used to the idea of working 6 days a week, my off day being Monday, but that will come in all due time. But, honestly, was there ever a month at SMC when I had more than 2 days when I had absolutely nothing to do? No, I don't think so. Never. So this should be more than doable. Plus, one of the best parts, I don't have to come home to homework/studying/papers/text books!!!

Anyways. My first show is Sherlock Holmes: The Final Adventure. I'm super excited, and I'm pretty sure it's going to be amazing. If you're in the Indy area the last few weeks of September/first week or so of October, and wanna see it, let me know!!!

In other news, cousin Katie sent me a CD of her pictures from their trip up here. How cute is this kid?!?!Today I had lunch with a girl from SMC who was in band at ND with me who just moved to Indy to be a nurse at Riley. It was great. I promised her I'd take her to Half-Price Books.

And tragedy fell on me today. I realized that I finished all of the Netflix that I currently have and tomorrow is my day off. That means no Gilmore Girls for me tomorrow because I haven't mailed any back yet. Boo. But I did finish Season One. And watched The Dead Poets Society with Ann and reminisced about 10th grade English when our teacher made us watch it.

Lastly, my bookshelves are done! Well, being built that is. I'm planning on painting them tomorrow, and then they'll really be done! Here they are pre-paint!!! Courtesy of Daddy Deeter.

you can't win em all

I fully intended on going to bed early tonight. I came upstairs at like 9:00, with a handful of cheerio "treats" for the dogs and the plan of getting into bed with a movie and book.

Then I went downstairs to set our DVR to record all of the Olympics for tomorrow. Whoops. I ended up staying up, and I watched all of the Olympics I had DVR'd already.

I super fastforwarded through a lot of them (I was mostly interested in Michael Phelps and gymnastics) and their commercials, and then I watched the two American girls 'take 1 and 2' in the All Around Gymnastics. It was pretty stellar.

So my plan was foiled. Here it is 1:40, and I haven't gotten in bed yet.

Katie and Lily leave tomorrow. I'm getting up early to take Katie to try and find a Peyton jersey for her other sister, Meredith, then go with Aunt K to take them to the airport.

Also, only 4 more days of my childhood left...meaning I start my job on Tuesday. Or as Katie would say, my career. Yikes!

Lots and Lots of Us

My cousins Katie (3 years younger) and Lily (10 years old, with the sense of humor of a 27 year old, she's awesome) have been in town this week. The got in Sunday night, super late, and Smiley went with me to pick them up from the train station. Good thing he did, cuz that is NOT a friendly place at midnight...

Plenty of jokes were made on the way home, and the first thing Katie asked me when I dropped him off was if we were dating. We aren't, at all, of course, but it's always really hard to answer that question because it is inevitably followed by something along the lines of "well you act like it" or "it seems like it" or something else--and I can see exactly why someone would THINK we are. Smiley has a theory/practice of not liking other people to know our/his business, so he would have told me why even answer the question? But I like to be open about things and talk about stuff.

Needless to say, we've been having a good time.

  • We had lunch at McAlister's, one of my faves, with Aunt K.
  • Went to various stores.
  • Went to Borders TWICE and then to Half-Price Books (at which I found something for $3 that I bought at Borders for $13. Exchange, anyone?!? I think so.).
  • Baked an awesome cake with some awesome icing.
  • Stopped at Fresh Market.
  • Saw a baseball game with all 9 of our family members in town.
  • Had multiple marathons of The Office.
  • DVR'd and watched tons of the Olympics.
  • Did Mad Libs with lots of potty humor.
  • Had a running contest of who could make the most Office references.
  • Stayed up all night playing hard core rounds of Disney Scene-It.
  • Stuffed our faces with excellent stuff.
  • Had hard core Staring Contests.
  • Made lots and lots of fun of each other.
  • Cooked out.
  • Ate at Yats with my mom.
  • Shopped on Mass. Ave.

And there is still one day to go :).
What do YOU do when YOUR cousins come into town?!?

Today, while they hung out with Aunt K, I vegged out marathon-ing Gilmore Girls, which has been my first endeavor on NetFlix. (Along with The Other Boleyn Girl, which I did not enjoy at all, which really surprised me.)

really? they said "REALLY?!?"

I babysat tonight. While not quite as exciting as the idea of going to see Mamma Mia, I haven't started working yet, and that means I haven't started getting paid yet.
Anyways, there was nothing on TV, as usual. Finally I found Something's Gotta Give. I thought I had never seen it, but I think I have. And it's a cute movie. I love Jack Nicholson, and I generally like Diane Keaton. However, I remembered why I didn't thoroughly enjoy this movie the first time through...the scenes when Diane Keaton's character is back in her beach house and is sobbing and finally writing something are painful to get through. It's incredibly over the top, and not in the 'making a statement' or 'make it a choice, not a mistake' kind of way. If it had been one of those two options, and had been done well, I would have appreciate it, but this was just outrageously stupid. Of course, you may disagree and think that I'm a snot, so I'll step off my high horse now. After that I turned on Saturday Night Live, which I rarely watch, although I wish I watched it more often. It was the Weekend Update part (of a re-run I think), and Amy Poehler and whoever the guy is did a "Weekend Update: Really? with Amy and Ryan". And they went through and said statements mocking whatever b.s. politician they had just reported on by repeating something and adding "really?!?" at the end.

Of course normally you'd think 'I know deet is a terrible blogger, but why would she recap SNL for us?!?", and I agree, however this is interesting to me because adding "really?!?!?!" to the end of things when I'm in complete shock, awe, disgust, or something of a situation or person or action is something I've been doing for at least 18 months. Man, I wish I had been the one to present it to SNL...then I wouldn't be resorting to babysitting to have spending money...

candle cigars???

My dad was sitting on the porch tonight, very excitedly making playlists on his ipod-something I just taught him yesterday. For someone who is extremely tech-savvy, seems to be able to fix every problem on a computer, rebuilt my old/crashed laptop for my mom, and who always has to have the latest technology, figuring out an ipod and itunes is still a chore.

I abandoned my sort of watching of the Red Sox getting their butts kicked by the Angels while reading to go out and join him and read outside when I realized he was out there.

He went inside and came out with the last 3rd of a cigar and a giant candle lighter-one of those ones with the long metal part so it can reach deep inside a jar or something. While he used the lighter to light his cigar, I had an eerie, out of body moment of deep appreciation and love of my dad. Weird, I know...but it's the oddly funny, and seemingly unclassy, things like this that make me love my family. To top it all off, I know he has a lighter specifically made for lighting cigars out in the garage.
In addition to that heart warming little story, I leave you with additions to the ever growing list of evidence of my addictive personality:

-Google Reader (which has been an obsession for a while, but I thought I'd update you to let you know this addiction continues to thrive)

-DVR-I'd used it in the past, at home and at a friend's apartment in SB, but my appreciation did not thoroughly bud until I officially arrived home this summer.

-TV Shows that may or may not be terrible, but never the less I am addicted to them: Beauty and the Geek, The Secret Life of the American Teenager, Living Lohan, and, most recently, reruns of Gossip Girl. Yes, I realize the many, many things wrong with all of these shows, and that my watching of them only supports them, but at least admitting it is the first step to recovery.

-The Fresh Market. If you have one within 30 miles of you, I suggest you go there. And by suggest, I mean demand. Yes, it's pricey, especially on thins you can find at regular grocery stores or Target, but the stuff unique to them is incredible. And their produce, oh their produce. And did I mention their wine selection???

-And lastly, I think that when I finally have a chance to subscribe to NetFlix, one of my first things to add to my queue will be Gilmore Girls. I've always loved it, but I've never been able to watch it regularly. TV on DVD marathons, here I come!!!

And a completely unrelated picture of people I miss waaay more than is healthy.
