welcome back!

Man, what an eventful summer it has been. For anyone who knows me, you know that I’ve been living/working in Bloomington/Normal, Illinois for the summer as an ASM/Stage Manager at a Shakespeare Festival. I can’t even begin to tell you how crazy the last three months have been. I’ve learned so much about myself, on both a professional and personal level. I’ve grown exponentially as a stage manager, and I’ve become a much more independent person. Moving out of my parents’ house in the next few weeks is a good thing.

Aside from becoming a better stage manager and becoming much more confident as a professional, the most significant part of this summer, I’d have to say, has been the personal life side. I feel the need to write out everything that has happened in the last (whirlwind) month so that I can both process it and remember it. Bear with me, it could be long winded, melodramatic, or who knows what.

Also, I’ll start typing tomorrow since I’m getting ready to jump in the shower so I can go to a baseball game with my dad and my aunt.

you want how many bedrooms??

So jump on the good news train with me. I've been talking with the other first year PA at The Theatre over the last few weeks about rooming for next year. She brought the idea of us being roommates for next season up back in January because she didn't think her current roommate would be coming back to The Theatre next year.

Well, her current roommate is planning on coming back, BUT they want me as an additional roommate.

I had been mentally debating about whether or not I should stay with my parents again for next season, and I eventually came to the conclusion that if a situation presented itself, then that would be the sign that I should move out. Hello Situation!

So we went driving around today looking for For Rent signs outside houses and stuff downtown. The intrawebz have not been very helpful thus far. Anyways, the fact that we went looking together pretty much means I'll be living with them next year. SWEET! If anyone knows of any 3 bedroom, preferable 2 bath apartments, townhouses, or houses close to downtown Indy, let me know!!

Also, my parents and I just ordered so much pizza for dinner, that the place we ordered from has to shut down business from other customers for the night. :)

its about time!!

My new bookcases are totally done :). I painted them, and then dad and I put them together in my room. Today I finally got all my books from storage (although what you see is not all of them by a long shot) and filled the shelves with various books, frames, etc.

Here they are:
Of course no one is allowed to judge the obscene amount of pictures on my bulliten board. I happen to be a photo obsessive, and one of my favorite things in the world is a good collage of pictures.

One Down...Lots to Go

Wow. I made it through my first week in the big bad real world. And I loved it. I'm still getting used to the idea of working 6 days a week, my off day being Monday, but that will come in all due time. But, honestly, was there ever a month at SMC when I had more than 2 days when I had absolutely nothing to do? No, I don't think so. Never. So this should be more than doable. Plus, one of the best parts, I don't have to come home to homework/studying/papers/text books!!!

Anyways. My first show is Sherlock Holmes: The Final Adventure. I'm super excited, and I'm pretty sure it's going to be amazing. If you're in the Indy area the last few weeks of September/first week or so of October, and wanna see it, let me know!!!

In other news, cousin Katie sent me a CD of her pictures from their trip up here. How cute is this kid?!?!Today I had lunch with a girl from SMC who was in band at ND with me who just moved to Indy to be a nurse at Riley. It was great. I promised her I'd take her to Half-Price Books.

And tragedy fell on me today. I realized that I finished all of the Netflix that I currently have and tomorrow is my day off. That means no Gilmore Girls for me tomorrow because I haven't mailed any back yet. Boo. But I did finish Season One. And watched The Dead Poets Society with Ann and reminisced about 10th grade English when our teacher made us watch it.

Lastly, my bookshelves are done! Well, being built that is. I'm planning on painting them tomorrow, and then they'll really be done! Here they are pre-paint!!! Courtesy of Daddy Deeter.

I've got a theory...

So I was driving home from Frankie's tonight around 12:30am, and a woman was walking along the side of the road, going with traffic mind you, pulling a carry on sized suitcase. Weird. What are your theories on where she was going/what she was doing??? By the time I got home (a 10 minute drive), I had fashioned a very dramatic story about her leaving a dirt bag boyfriend and what not. Very exciting stuff to compliment my very boring life.

I arrived home to a super hyper Bailey at the front door who ran all around downstairs. Then I turned off the lights and walked up stairs to be scared half to death by MooMoo standing on the landing. In the dark, all you can see of her is her eyes and the white stripe on her chest. To many, it would be scary, but she was wagging her tail and hammin it up for me.

We watched Kate & Leopold tonight. It was adorable, and I'm surprised I've never seen it.

Hopefully tomorrow mom and I are will go (back) down to the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. I've been with my Aunt K (twice), but not with the mom.

The top picture is 4 out of 5 of "the girls" at our senior band camp in high school. The bottom is the 4 of us last night for Crabs' going away. That's a five year difference, but we've been together for 8. Nostalgia anyone???

Another Pyramid.

I've been working super hard on getting my room ready and awesome. So busy that I didn't work out last week, and I've been working out hard core since I've been home! Here are some pictures to show some exciting stuff!!

Last week I found knobs for my dressers, as reported, and a duvet with my prefect/ideal colors. This is the pillowcase of my new bedding:SOOOO me, right? I know.

Here is the "baby dresser" with the new knobs. I'm an idiot and didn't take a "before" picture.

I found some super awesome ones both on sale and not, so I did a combination of the sale and non sale ones to make the price more ideal. Here is the on sale one:

And the non sale one:

Lastly, the (on sale) knobs for my Great Grandma Flanigan's/then my dad's dresser:
Lastly, I picked out paint. I found exactly matching colors for the turquoise in my bedding. This bedside table was originally the same color as my bed is now, and it was painted that way to match my bed when I was really young. I'm also pretty sure this was somehow a piece of my "baby furniture". My bed will be painted the turquoise, and my bookshelves that my dad is currently making me will be the brown. I also painted the frame of my cork board the turquoise.
The shelves of which I spoke are my dad's version of the ladder shelves at Crate & Barrel. My dad is super awesome with the building stuff, so last week we went to C&B and took measurements. I'm really pumped for these!!

And here is a (blurry) picture of the secretary that belonged to my Great Grandma Deeter. The thing I am most excited about having!!! There are a few pieces to be put back on (a topper over the sleves and a base piece), but this is basically it. I just threw some stuff on there for now. Yes that's an Aunt Jemima bank--(for one reason or another) my Grandma had it and used it all the time.

Others jsut get wet

I am BEYOND excited!!!

My mom and I, although mostly I, have set out to redo (or something) my room. For the last 4 years while I was away at SMC, my mother turned my room into her own personal storage. This made for not very fun living quarters for me when I was home. Yuck.

Finally, after WEEKS of digging through stuff to get to my bed, we finally cleared a lot of it out and cleaned. Granted, there is still some of my junk to deal with in here. But it's mostly taken care of.

The next step was to get the appropriate furniture. Tonight, I finally reeled Smiley in to help me get my mom's desk from storage that is now mine, apparently she got it in high school--pretty snazzy. He helped me move out the crappy, old bookcases. And he helped me get the beautiful, old, actual antique secretary from my Aunt's house. It belonged to my Great-Grandma Deeter (dad's side), who must've given it to Aunt Kathy, and she gave it to me. It is gorgeous. When my room is finished, I'll post pictures.

Also, yesterday I went to Anthropologie and got new knobs for my dressers. One dresser is my "baby dresser" that I've had my whole life. The other is a dresser that, I just learned, belonged to my Great-Grandma Flanigan (mom's side), and someone gave it to my dad (weird) to use when my parents got married. Then the rents got new furniture and moved it into my room. I know, two dressers, weird. But the "baby" one is pretty small, although still functional, and the big one doubles as a TV stand.

Anyways, I got new knobs at Anthropologie yesterday. They-Are-Baller. I kid you not. Of the 16 that I had to buy, in total, 12 of them were on clearance for $3 each! The other 4 were $6 each! So it turned out to be like $60. That's WAY cheaper and a much more efficient way of making a room look brand new--instead of buying a new $600 dresser at Crate and Barrel. I also got a new duvet cover (a comforter envelope as we tell my dad) for my bed. I had been sleeping with my twin size blankets from school, but my bed at home is a full size. I had a comforter, but it was yucky and needed a hardcore cleaning (which I did) and a duvet. SWEET!

The last step will be to get the rest of my actual stuff from college out of storage. My parents threw all the stuff from my room at school into our storage unit here, and I haven't had space to unpack any of it until now. Hopefully now I can start bringing it home, box by box. I'm gonna try to get rid of a lot of stuff of course, cuz my room is already pretty full...I'm known for being not only having a ton of crap, but also being a packrat.

Oh, and you know those super cute ladder bookcases (nice versions at Crate and Barrel, and not as nice ones at Target)? My dad is going to MAKE me one!!! Sweet!

Anyways, needless to say, I am INCREDIBLY EXCITED!!! The short version of all of this is that what has been "my room" for the last 4 years is finally turning back into MY room. My goal is to have brought home a good amount and taken care of it by Sunday. Cross you fingers.

The Difference Is He Didn't Have to Be President on Television

So I'm finally home in my own bed in my own house in Indy. It feels great. Weird at the same time.Despite the miserable parts of the last two weeks at the Civic (when someone flipped their shit), I had an absolutely amazing experience. The set turned out really well, thanks to a number of people who really pulled through for me. I couldn't appreciate them and the work they did more!

The show opened Friday to a stellar audience. They were laughing at things we didn't know were funny. They cried. And they gave us a standing ovation. Of course, in the booth, I was gonna stand for the amazing cast no matter what, but it was even better that the whole house agreed.

The South Bend Tribune came on Friday night and wrote a STELLAR review. AND...They had some nice things to say about my set. My first time in the newspaper (as, you know, stage managers don't generally get written about) and I get two paragraphs! There are photos of the show on the site as well. This is the first one, and if you click next, you'll get to see nine of them.

A good time was had by all at various bars and restaurants post rehearsals and shows this week. That's always good. And I got to know some incredible people while working on this show. While I am so absolutely excited to be home (and to be going to New York on THURSDAY!!!), I really, really miss the cast and crew of this show. I don't usually experience this. I think it must be because of how well they treated me (especially after the bad stuff went down). I'm sure part of it has to do with my may or may not having a super crush on a cast member. Shhh...don't tell.

My parents came up for the show last night. We went to the LaSalle Grill for dinner (my dad said right before graduation that he'd always wanted to try the Tippecanoe Place and the LaSalle Grill. We did Tippecanoe after graduation, and we got LaSalle in last night-good work, Deeters.

I gave them a tour of the theatre, and of my set, and then sat in the audience with them and watched like a real audience member. Of course, I did some saving of the light board op and some trouble shooting for some cast members etc, but I wouldn't have it any other way. And I sewed on the button at intermission. Not a button...THE button. My parents absolutely loved the show, and the set of course-but they have to love that. My mom cried like a baby. It was stellar. And of course I jumped out of my seat to standing ovate them last night as well (I'm aware that's not a word, but who cares, I like it). The boyfriend of the director and the sound board op (director's nephew) joined me, and soon after the rest of the house did too. I couldn't have been more proud of a group of people (exception: my comp).

After the show I introduced my parents around to the cast and crew etc, and everyone loved each other. Dana, the director, had us do some cast/crew pictures on the set and required my to be in the front of the pictures. Yikes. We took some crazy shots too--and in case you didn't know (and can't tell by the picture) the show was not only called Intimate Apparel, but was about it too ;).
Now I'm home, trying to make my room habitable. All of my stuff, save what I had with me the last 2 weeks, is in storage. I have to go get my clothes, toiletries, and shoes tomorrow, so that I can be all packed for THE New York Trip by Wednesday afternoon. Yikes!!!
Post New York Trip, there will be a family get together to celebrate the graduation, and the purging of my room to turn it from make shift storage for my mom (as it's been for the last 4 years) back into my room that will be a nice place for me to live for the next year.

i dont know why you say goodbye i say hello

So I'm home. I know, it's my last finals week at SMC, and I don't have much time left, what the fuck? Right?
I was planning on coming home for a while this weekend anyways on Friday. But let me tell you, being on campus and having zero finals and zero things to do is REALLY boring. Even if you have friends around. Plus, I miss my family. Weird as it sounds. Next, I needed to get away for a brief second because there's still some drama that's lurking over my head/around me and being away for a couple of days will help me appreciate next week even more. Plus, I'm going to be in South Bend until the freakin' end of May...so I have a while. So get off my back? OK. Or maybe I'm rationalizing to myself. I don't know. It just felt like the right thing to do. Although it sucks when you get home and your mom is in one of those I'm pissed off at the world and going to be a debbie downer and snotty funky type moods. That kinda makes me regret coming home. I'm sure it will be better tomorrow when Smiley, myself, et al go to a malt shop (my allergic to dairy self hopes they have slushies) and a drive in!!!
I did a lot of stuff on campus today before leaving. Mostly like sleeping really late, eating lunch, trying to load my car but then the elevator broke and there were no more carts, finding someone to take my fridge (Thanks Martha!) and cleaning it with her, loading the car finally, cleaning out my cubby at the show :(, and taking pictures of the shop and my(mostly others') beautiful paintings on the walls. As seen in this post.

in darkness in gloom

My dad came home from work today and asked me (whilest laying on the couch watching the office and still in jammies) "why dont you hang out with your friends during the day?" my first thought??? I dont have friends. lol. but in all seriousness, all my home friends are gone right now. One in Cinci, one in Iowa, one with family up north somewhere, and one in NYC. so what's a girl to do but watch the office in her pajamas while reading a good book.

But seriously. Being home with not much to do is making me nuts. I start thinking of things, running things through my mind that I shouldn't, and drive myself insane. They are things that are still on my mind at school, but I don't obsess over them because I have other thigns to do that are sometimes more important, or just important enough for me to be doing. I need to find myself a happy medium here. And by medium, I mean be able to have my mind focused like that while I'm at home. Grrr..

Also, the parents are making me NUTS. My mom in particular. It's just one damned question after another damned question. And she never shuts up. We're sitting watching TV--dad watching and reading, mom reading a catalogue or something, and I;m watching and doing stuff on the computer. What does she do? Start reading shit outloud. It's really frustrating. I know, I sound horrible and mean and terrible. But if you had to experience this too, you'd be going nuts as well.
